Nariman Point in MumbaiInvestment banking jobs for freshers in India. There are just a few of them, spread mostly across Nariman Point in Mumbai. So the top 4 Investment banks most aspiring bankers dream of are:

1.Goldman Sachs

2.Lehman Brothers

3.Merryl Lynch

4.UBS

Closer home, noteworthy bankers(the ones with reasonably decent turnovers) are:

1.Motilal Oswal

2.Edelweiss Capital

3.ILFS

So getting into one of these banks is pretty much a Herculean task, because you’ll be made to grind in the interview(s) and afterwards at work.

You are grilled with some typical investment banking interview questions.A few stress round questions.

One sample question, which is on the easier side was this:

A man is stuck in a house with a 100 windows. All the 100 windows are shut.He decides to open every 1st,3rd,5th,7th and so on till the 99th window.Having done that,he next decides to close the 2nd,4th,6th,etc windows. The next time he opens the 3rd,6th,9th,etc windows and closes the next cycle of windows.Which windows are still open??

You need to be really strong with your concepts in conditional probability. They’ll grill you with the stuff you learnt while you prepared for your boards and the JEE in 12th.One such question:

There are 4 Red,5 Yellow,6 Green pairs of socks.Find the minimum no. of moves by which
one could pick up a left-right pair of red socks.

There was a rapid fire round where I was asked questions like what is 2 to the power of 5,and a few simple probability questions.

How many zeros are there in 100! was their favourite question that evening. They asked me to calculate that for base 100! in base 2,6 and 10(!).

And this went on for another one hour.I came out out of the interview all dead and exhausted.

Nine months down the line I can safely say that for all the money thats there in this business, the toll it takes on you is unfathomable.I did not get through and I’m glad in a lot of ways that I did not :D
