Live from Bangalore-Banned

Galeej Gurus live from Legends of Rock...is this the last?
Just recently I came across this news article which says that no form of live music should be played in Bangalore. The police say its in line with Karnataka Excise license but as most lovers of live music I feel its a shame. A shame to Bangalore which has produced great acts like Thermal and a Quarter(TAAQ), Zebediah Plush, Galeej Gurus among others. Also this rules out DJs churning out their mixes at the various nightclubs in the city. Sigh.
The logical explanation and reasoning behind the banning of live music acts is that it allegedly leads to increase in crime rate and gambling which is total bull s***. Now comes the funny part. The police is alright with recorded music being played at pubs and nightclubs. How does recorded music increase crime rate? Could someone please explain that to me!
I can imagine the increasing frustration for Bangaloreans who first have to cut short their night plans because of the 11.30 curfew rule. And now we have the ultra stupid no live music rule! What happens to the regular party goer who goes club hopping. What is a nightclub without a disc jockey?
Live music in Bangalore isn’t such a big thing, but its been picking up lately. Popular pubs in Bangalore stick to a certain genre of music usually playing covers. Like if you went to Styx, you’d probably hear a lot of metal and if you were to be in Purple Haze, you’d get a heavy dose of classic rock and metal. My favourite pub is pecos where you get classic rock, blues and chili beef with beer
Coming back to my point of live acts, the only places that I know of which encourage such form of music is Le Rock Cafe on brigade road and Legends of Rock in Koramangala. There have been live shows by Junkyard Grove, TAAQ, Galeej Gurus, etc here.
Looks like there’s going to be a strike soon. Hopefully something good will come through, that might save the Bangaloreans of their pubbing culture which they are proud of. More about this, soon.

@ Anish
The new law leaves me wondering beyond doubt, what will be next. Will they stop even rock music being played at the bands?

Live music suffers another big blow.Doesn’t matter if I am a “bengaloorian” or not! The live music scene in India is already pretty low-profile.
